Position: CNC Machine Shop Manager

Overview

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Machine Shop Manager to oversee their operations. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills and a background in managing teams within a machine shop environment. They should be knowledgeable about CNC machining processes, including turning, milling, EDM, Swiss turning, etc. The Machine Shop Manager will be responsible for coordinating the production of machined parts, improving machine processes, and supporting engineering projects. In addition, the candidate should be well-versed in lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, value stream mapping, and standard work.

Skills and Responsibilities:

  • Organize and prioritize work to ensure timely delivery.

  • Demonstrate effectiveness, flexibility, independence, and initiative without daily interaction with management.

  • Determine manpower, equipment, and raw materials needed to meet production demand.

  • Track jobs and parts in the machining department for status updates.

  • Build positive partnerships and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

  • Implement continuous improvement activities using lean techniques and process improvement methods.

  • Oversee staff development and provide training for backup employees.

  • Create detailed documentation for setup sheets and machining operations.

  • Verify accuracy and provide feedback for process improvements.

  • Manage CNC configuration management system and file storage.

  • Collaborate with shop floor personnel to optimize CNC programs.

Qualifications:

  • 10 years of experience in a production CNC machine shop environment producing precision parts, with at least 5 years in machine shop management.

  • Strong knowledge of machining processes and CNC operations, including Horizontal Machining Centers.

  • Proficiency in measurement systems, gaging equipment, and Statistical Process Control methods.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to lead and develop teams.

  • Familiarity with computer systems integrated with CNC machines.

  • Associates Degree (two-year college or technical school) preferred.
